Control Systems: Media

3a. THE CONTROL SYSTEMS

As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable then the powerful can do as they please and those who survive will be left to contemplate the outcome.”

Noam Chomsky

i)Media

The masses have never thirsted after truth. Whoever can supply them with illusions is easily their master; whoever attempts to destroy their illusions is always their victim.”

Gustave Le Bon

It’s much easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled — such is the nature of confirmation bias and other psychological tools of manipulation. Breaking free of the ancient, historical ‘constant’ of mind control is an ongoing process of waking up out of a state of denial. Spiritual emergence and awakening involves a physiological break from the consensus social agreements of our planetary cultures.”

Karlos Kukuburra

Once you start to see the normative control systems built into our television programmes and adverts it is hard not to see them as a form of abuse. They are relentless and utterly entrenched into every TV drama, movie, quiz show, story and news programme.

It is said that if you don’t follow the news you are uninformed as to what is going on in the world. But if you do follow the news you are most likely misinformed because the presentation of the news is selected according to an agenda and presented with a political bias.

Whether we are watching Russell Brand’s ‘Trews’, reading the Daily Mail or Express, listening to the World Service on the BBC or a commercial radio station in the US – each media stream has a slightly different emphasis and audience as to what is important in the world. To create interest the choice of news stories revolve mainly around qualities of drama, conflict and scenes of visual impact. All of them support the status quo. OK maybe not Russell Brand!

Many of us follow ‘news’ and it is interesting to look at the variety of values behind the sources of news we choose to plug into.
